Google Maps is getting smarter.
The app now uses Gemini, a new AI helper from Google.
Drivers can talk to Gemini with their voice.
They can ask about places on their route, news, or sports.
They can also do small tasks, for example adding an event to the calendar.
Gemini can even let drivers report a crash or a traffic jam.
Maps will soon say, “Turn right after the gas station,” instead of “Turn right after 500 feet.”
Gemini looks at 250 million places and Street View pictures to find clear landmarks.
The new tools will roll out in the coming weeks on iOS and Android.
Traffic alerts are first for Android users in the U.S.
Landmark directions and the camera tool will also arrive later this month.
