South Korea will make a bigger no-fly zone around the Blue House. The Blue House is the old home of the president in central Seoul. This will happen when the new president, Lee Jae-myung, returns.
The new zone is called P73. It is about 4 miles wide from the center. Now the zone is only 2.3 miles wide around the president's office in Yongsan.
The area of the zone will grow three times bigger. From 16.6 square miles to 50.3 square miles.
In December 2022, a North Korean drone flew into Seoul. It went into the no-fly zone near the president's office.
South Korea's army could not stop the drone. It was small and fast. Now they want more time to see and stop drones.
Experts say the bigger zone is for North Korean drones. A wider zone gives more time to react.
After 2022, South Korea made a new Drone Operations Command. They put in anti-drone systems. They do training drills.
But some experts say it is not enough. They need better ways to find and stop many drones at once.
Before, under President Moon Jae-in, there were two zones: P73A around Blue House and P73B farther out.
President Yoon Suk-yeol moved the office to Yongsan and changed the zone.
The army says they need a buffer zone. This lets them warn and shoot at drones or planes that come close.
Experts like Jihoon Yu and Choi Gi-il say this is because of North Korea. Yang Uk says they need real-time detection.
The bigger no-fly zone will help keep the president and Seoul safe from drone threats.
